When you and your partner first got together, it was like nothing could keep you apart. You two would do everything you could to get some alone time with one another.

Fast forward a bit, and now you’re lucky if you can maintain your partner’s attention long enough to cuddle.

It’s a tough situation to be in, but it’s more common than you might think. And like with all problems, there are solutions.

Keep reading as we explore three of the most common intimacy issues couples struggle with, plus get tips on how to overcome these tough obstacles.

  1. Lack of Time

You both have full, rich lives. Maybe you even have kids. Although you love your partner, when the day comes to a close and your head hits the pillow, you’re out like a light.

No doubt about it, finding time to improve intimacy is a challenge with all that life throws your way. With that said, you can’t add any extra time to the day.

Instead, you’ll need to carve out time in your busy schedules to spend quality time with one another.

Start simple and take a few minutes at the end of each day to cuddle. If it leads to sex, great! If not, that’s okay, too.

Try not to put pressure on yourselves, because that will only make things tougher.

And we’re not kidding we say ‘a few minutes’. Even 15 minutes talking about your days can be a great bonding experience.

  1. Arousal Issues

Erectile dysfunction might hog the spotlight when it comes to arousal issues, but it’s not the only bedroom-related problem out there. Arousal issues can encompass things like premature ejaculation, too.

How common is premature ejaculation, anyway? Well, you might be surprised. Most men struggle with it, along with trouble maintaining an erection, as they get older.

Likewise, women can have trouble staying aroused, too.

In some cases, the problem could be psychological. In others, you may need to speak with a physician about starting medication. In either case, arousal issues happen as we get older, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still improve intimacy.

  1. Poor Communication

You might think you’ve expressed your sexual frustration. But are you sure your partner knows how bad things are?

Everyone has a unique way of communicating their needs. While you know your mind, it’s unfair to expect your partner to psychically know your needs.

Partners need to get comfortable communicating in a way that facilitates healthy discussion and expression.

Sometimes, this means attending couples counseling.

Though it’s often seen as a last-ditch effort to salvage a relationship, couples counseling is a great resource for partners in any stage of their relationship. Together, you’ll explore your unique needs and wants and better learn how to express yourself and accommodate your partner.

Tackle Your Intimacy Issues Before It’s Too Late

No matter who is “at fault” it’s important that both partners want to solve the problem. If you and your loved one remain dedicated to tackling your intimacy issues, rest assured, things can — and will — get back to normal with time and effort. Remember, there’s no harm in seeking couples counseling.

We wish you luck on your journey!
